Labels in all the territories
The Ministry of Culture has created or initiated many labels and designations to promote cultural and heritage diversity throughout the territory. Here is a selection specifically for communities and their groups.
Label «100% Arts and Cultural Education»
Launched by the High Council of Arts and Cultural Education, this label distinguishes local authorities and intercommunalities engaged in a project aimed at the benefit of quality artistic and cultural education for 100% of young people in their territory, from early childhood to university. During the first session last year, 79 territories were labeled for five years. Find the complete list on the websites of the Ministries of Culture and National Education.
Label «French capital of culture»
This label distinguishes every two years the cultural project of a medium-sized city or a group of municipalities of 20,000 to 200,000 inhabitants that is of remarkable interest from the point of view of support for artistic creation, the promotion of heritage and the participation of inhabitants in cultural life. After a jury hearing, the label is awarded by the Minister of Culture for a period of one year. After Villeurbanne in 2022, the label was awarded to Pays de Montbéliard Agglomération for 2024, accompanied by a funding of one million euros.
Label «City and Country of art and history»
Created in 1985, this label is awarded to municipalities or groups of municipalities that base their territorial project on their architectural resources, heritage and cultural and committed to a policy of quality of architecture and living environment for the benefit of the inhabitants.
Labels supporting artistic creation
Support for artistic creation is implemented by the State jointly, and in close collaboration, with local authorities. In this context, the State has created 13 labels of artistic creation, which it attributes to structures supported both by local authorities and by itself: «national choreographic center», «contemporary art center of national interest», "centre de développement chorégraphique national", "centre dramatique national", "centre national de création musicale", "centre national des arts de la rue et de l'espace public", "fonds régional d'art contemporain", "opéra national en région", «orchestre national en région», «pôle national du cirque», «scène de musiques actuelles», «scène nationale»
and “National Puppet Centre”. The State can also issue two types of designations: «stage conventionnée d'intérêt national» and «théâtre lyrique d'intérêt national».
Exhibition of National Interest Label
This label makes it possible to support and promote the projects of exhibitions of «museums of France» territorial. Through this label, twenty projects are distinguished each year for the scientific quality and innovative nature of the cultural mediation actions that accompany them.
Label «Remarkable contemporary architecture»
This label is awarded to buildings, buildings or structures under 100 years old with architectural interest. It aims to recreate a quality architecture with existing architecture, to transmit, while adapting to current requirements, developments and recent buildings. It is a tool for the ecological transition.
