Respirations/ Digital Stories is the latest instalment of research conducted over the past ten years by Claire Jenny and Sylvie Frigon, professor of criminology at the University of Ottawa who collected the participants' words, on the impact of choreographic creation in prison, on the edge of science and art.
The project aimed in particular to highlight the intensity of the human and artistic experiences experienced during this shared creative process. How each person involved, whether in custody or not, moves towards issues of artistic expression, towards the freedom to design, experiment and innovate in a collaborative way. It relates the challenges of meeting and sharing with the Other, that of the "inside" and that of the "outside", which propel the bodies of all the actors involved in movements, literally and figuratively and build other perceptions and lived experiences of oneself and others.
This creation was presented during the 2020 edition of the festival Vis-à-Vis, at the Théâtre Paris-Villette, and was notably supported by the DRAC Île-de-France and the Fondation de France.
Four video vignettes recounting this experience were produced by Ludivine Large-Bessette, an image creator.
