Conservation and restoration at the heart of civil society, 2023
12e Journées professionnelles de la conservation-restauration, organized by the Directorate-General for Heritage and Architecture in partnership with the Cité de l'architecture & du patrimoine and the Institut national du patrimoine, Paris, 30 and 31 March 2023.
Thematic
Heritage brings many different challenges – cultural, political, economic and environmental. Its conservation, use and transmission are at the heart of current societal issues.
The conservation and restoration of cultural property is a factor of territorial dynamism: through networks of researchers, professionals and local actors, restoration sites, archaeological excavations, development operations contribute to the attractiveness of a city or region. During these two days of meetings, the floor was given to representatives of the many actors present on the ground: elected officials, individuals, volunteers, associations and foundations, but also architects, curators, conservators and conservation scientists. Among the points of the debate was the interest of taking qualifications into account and sharing methodologies.
The mediation and valorization of conservation-restoration works also contribute to the transmission of knowledge and know-how. Several papers have testified to successful projects in arts and cultural education. Conservation-restoration, for example, is a way of approaching applied science with the school public. The presentation to the general public of heritage professions, often poorly known, can generate new vocations.
Organized by the Directorate General of Heritage and Architecture of the Ministry of Culture, in partnership with the Cité de l'architecture & du patrimoine and the National Institute of Heritage, these 12th Professional Days of Conservation-Restoration brought together some 40 stakeholders and reported on their projects and achievements.
