Architecture is taught in France through a network of 20 national architecture colleges (ENSA) under the supervision of the Ministry of Culture and Communication and covering the entire territory.
Architectural studies address by their richness, the diversity of disciplinary fields necessary for the elaboration of architectural, urban and landscape projects. These studies are fully integrated into the European model of higher education (LMD university curriculum - bachelor, master, doctorate) thus facilitating bridges, exchanges, mobility and partnerships with foreign countries. The alternation of theoretical, practical courses, supervised assignments, internships, introduction to research methods give students the keys to cope with the mastery of the built space that is an essential stake in the quality of our living environment.
The art of designing and building requires the architect culture, knowledge, skills and reflexive faculty on these knowledge and skills. This teaching is articulated on productive and lively research, based on doctorates in architecture awarded by the ENSA associated with communities of universities and institutions (COMUE) and doctoral schools.

Architecture is an expression of culture. It is in the public interest. This principle, strongly affirmed in the 1977 law on architecture, finds its expression in the practice of a profession that continues to diversify and renew its approaches and requirements. This development reinforces the essential role that architects have to play in society in terms of housing, renovation, urban and urban development, sustainable development, balance of territories and harmony of landscapes.
