National Centre for Prehistory Resource Centre
The mission of the National Centre for Prehistory is to archive the French corpus of rock art sites. Its resource centre, dedicated exclusively to rock art, centralizes documents and archives of all types and origins: archaeological operations, analyses and micro-analyses, academic work, conservation work, 3D models, documents and tools for monitoring wall conditions...
The platform manages material archives and digital archives through specific recording and management tools on rock art and meets various needs and uses.
The library
The NOC library is constantly growing. It has put in place a proactive policy for the acquisition of specialized works, based in particular on the international scientific collaborations developed by the CNP.
She’s part of the network Frantiq (Federation and Resources on antiquity). Its catalogue is available online through the Catalogue Collectif Indexé (CCI) of the network.
The LWOP library counts:
- more than 1000 securities;
- more than 200 academic works (theses);
- she is a subscriber to many trade journals.
It is available on request to students and researchers.
The iconographic collection
Equity or LWOP funds include:
- more than 10,000 images (slides, ektachromes, negatives, digital images, etc.);
- hundreds of graphic documents (surveys, drawings, plans, topographies);
- three-dimensional numerical models of ornate caves: Lascaux, Chauvet, Font-de-Game... Others are being realized.
This is the most important French iconographic collection on parietal art.
The editorial space
The CNP provides the Ministry of Culture with administrative and financial management of the iconographic documentation communicated to the press and publishers. These are only photographs of caves belonging to the State, especially those of the Lascaux cave.
