Joint research units
Located throughout the country, the Mixed Research Units (UMR) are laboratories that bring together researchers from the CNRS, universities, the Ministry of Culture and preventive archaeology operators.
The researchers gathered within the UMR can jointly develop research around shared chronological and/or geographical, methodological and epistemological themes.
The UMR are therefore central actors in the establishment of a national research policy.
On July 15, 2021, the framework agreement between the Ministry of Culture and the National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS) was renewed. It marks the common desire of these two institutions to:
- to perpetuate and consolidate committed cooperation;
- share the latest scientific knowledge;
- open new research themes and develop innovative approaches;
- support the dissemination and exploitation of research results;
- to maintain in a high level of scientific requirement all attached personnel.
Within this framework, 17 UMR of archaeology, ensuring a balanced geographical and thematic coverage, benefit from a privileged partnership with the Ministry of Culture.
