Museums
The missions of the Museums Service are based on the implementation of the provisions of the Heritage Code, in its legislative and regulatory parts in Book IV, Museums. They are applied to "museums of France" institutions, within the meaning of the provisions of the Heritage Code, as well as to a number of institutions and foundations recognized as being of public utility, heritage and cultural interest in the PACA region.
The PACA region has 121 establishments with the name "museum of France" (including 5 national museums and 4 museums belonging to the Ministry of Defense) spread over 6 departments. These institutions, whose collections are of exceptional richness and diversity, have the mission to preserve, restore, study and enrich these collections, to make them accessible to the widest public, to design and implement education and dissemination actions aimed at ensuring equal access for all to culture, contributing to the progress of knowledge and research and their dissemination.
The service manages decentralized funds for the acquisition of works of art to enrich the collections (Regional Acquisition Fund for Museums) and awards grants for computerisation, preventive conservation and restoration. It supervises and accompanies trustees and institutional managers in the finalisation of their scientific and cultural projects, their acquisitions projects, through a regional scientific commission of acquisition and the Regional Fund of assistance to museums (FRAM, with the Region) and their restoration projects, through a regional scientific commission. It organizes for this purpose two annual sessions for the regional scientific commissions of acquisition and restoration as well as the annual holding of the FRAM committee.
The service is associated with the operation of the GIP Centre interregional de conservation et de restauration du patrimoine (CICRP) in Marseille, a unique establishment in the region.
The department monitors and supports institutions in their ten-year financial requirements and encourages the digitization of collections. It coordinates institutions and facilitates their networking according to their scientific and cultural collections and projects. It provides advice and assistance to professionals and guardians.
The museum service is also the relay of national actions such as "La nuit des musées", "La classe l'œuvre", "L'entreprise à l'œuvre" and participates in the "Journées européennes du Patrimoine".
Finally, it receives the applications for the "Exhibition of National Interest" label submitted by the museums of France (file to be downloaded below); for the 2022 campaign, the files are to be returned to the DRAC PACA before September 16, 2021. For more information, please visit:
