Book and Reading
The Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur Regional Cultural Affairs Directorate supports the entire book industry, from the author to the reader.
It promotes the development of public and private structures for the dissemination of books, writing and documentation.
It supports the promotion of books, public reading and the development of reading.
It stimulates actions in support of literary creation as well as those in the fight against illiteracy.
It supports local and regional authorities, associations and other cultural actors working to broaden the audiences of books and reading (especially of public reading), to the actions of modernization of bookshops and independent publishing houses, outreach to library professionals.
The DRAC also ensures the preservation and enhancement of the written heritage by encouraging local authorities to better preserve and promote it.
Finally, in close collaboration with the Regional Council, it manages the Regional Book Agency, an essential tool for cooperation, information, training and observation in the regions.
The action of the service of the book and the reading is also part of the duration. Indeed, the DRAC strongly supports the development of the public reading offer (under the General Decentralization Endowment) throughout the regional territory, according to two priorities:
- the construction of local media centres,
- respect for the equality of territories, in particular the question of rebalancing in favour of rural and peri-urban territories.
