Saturday 13 May 2023 will be the 19th edition of the European Night of Museums. In Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, events are numerous and quality!
For one evening, multiple museums across Europe will open their doors for free to the public. In France, it will be an opportunity for many students to become cultural mediators for one evening and to present the works on which they worked during the year, as part of the “La classe, l'œuvre!”
Created in 2013 and supported by the Ministries of Culture and National Education and Youth, this device connects classes from primary to high school and museums of the territory, to allow students to appropriate museum heritage and interpret it with their own language.
Some examples of events in our region show the diversity and quality of this event.
Open free of charge from 5pm to 00am, this edition of the European Night of Museums at the Salagon Museum promises to be full of events! The program of the evening: guided tours, animations, concerts and illuminations on the theme of games and toys, will make you fall back in childhood.

As Christine Saillard, Director of Audiences and Cultural Programming at Grasse Museums, explains:
It is a collaboration between two senior classes of the Lycée Simone Veil de Valbonne, in plastic arts specialty, and a SEGPA class of the Canteperdrix College in Grasse. They worked on the mapping idea. A class designed a luminous fresco or mapping, with the digital artist Frédéric Alemany, which will be projected during the Night of Museums on the facade of the museum. This achievement will also be presented at the LAC 2023 specialty oral.
The other terminal class and the SEGPA class have taken over the museum’s interior. After associating smells with the works, drawing and writing, they will project their own interpretation of the chosen works.
They collectively chose to call their achievements: Hack at MAHP! On the evening of May 13 these young pirates will give us to see and hear the works differently.”
From 7pm to midnight, the students of the Conservatoire Pierre Barbizet in Marseille will offer visitors musical interludes echoing the collections of museums. Stroll through the Longchamp Palace to the beat of music!
To satisfy the artistic and cultural curiosity of everyone, the Museum of Fine Arts will deploy in its rooms, of «flying mediation». Mediators will be present to answer visitors' questions throughout the evening.
