Villa built from 1902 to 1908 by the Nice architect Emmanuel-Elisée Pontremoli for the historian and archaeologist Théodore Reinach, who bequeathed it to the Institut de France when he died in 1928. It is an ideal reconstruction of a Greek house from the Hellenistic era, suitable for modern functionality (and electric lighting). The wall paintings are due to the painters Adrien Karbowsky and Gustave-Louis Jaulmes and the stucco to Paul-Jean-Baptiste Gasq. The twelve monolithic Carrara white marble columns surrounding the peristyle are carved by Nicoli. The linen drapes that replace the doors are embroidered by the designer Ecochard. The tableware is made by Emile Lenoble and the furniture by the Parisian cabinet maker Bettenfeld on drawings by Pontremoli.
