Garden designed between 1919 and 1939 by Major Lawrence Johnston (1871-1958), famous landscape architect active in England, creator in 1907 of the garden of Hidcote Manor in the Cotswolds and the garden of Sissinghurst in Kent (1930). His winter garden in Menton, built around an old farm, was intended for plants brought back from the Far East or Africa. It is characterized by a dense tangle of native and imported species invading the garden structure.
