Garden designed between 1919 and 1939 by Major Lawrence Johnston (1871-1958), famous landscape architect active in England, creator of the Hidcote Manor garden in the Cotswolds and the Sissinghurst garden in Kent. His winter garden in Menton, set up in the Gorbio valley around an old farm, was intended for plants brought back from the Far East or Africa. It is characterized by a dense tangle of native and imported species. To the botanical interest is added the quality of the composition, structured by stairs and terraces where greenhouses and ponds take place. The garden was saved from destruction in 1990 thanks to a measure of automatic classification by decree in the Council of State.
