Maubec - Mediatheque, cultural space Armand Meffre
Maubec 84660 – Vaucluse Population: 1,829
For several decades, the rural municipality of Maubec has been experiencing strong population growth. The new population is largely residential, divided between the old village located in height and the hamlet of Coustellet, more recent, in the plain. With an area of 50 m2, the current library of Maubec has neither the size nor the means to ensure a satisfactory policy of dissemination and cultural animation in this commune of nearly 2000 inhabitants.
The Media Library Project
To renew and adapt its range of cultural facilities to a growing population, the city has initiated a project to rehabilitate an old house located on the Grand Rue, between the old town and the new residential districts. By its location within the village, it will be a link between the old village and the new districts.
In these new premises of about 470 m2 will be built a media library, a cultural exhibition room and social housing. This project is part of the networking of the various public reading institutions of the community of municipalities
As such, the media library aims to become a dynamic hub of mediation and cultural action in a territory that transcends the city’s boundaries.
The work, supported by the State to the tune of 40% for the construction of the media library, began in January 2012.

Relocation and opening of the media library
The Media Library moved into its new premises at the Deflaux House and the old café/theatre in late June 2013. Its location makes the link between the old village and the extension of the plain.
The Maubec media library, open 11 hours a week to the public, offers regular animations such as adult and youth readings (early childhood and adolescent public), meetings with booksellers who present their novelties and favourites as well as reading committees. She also works with the school groups she receives regularly. In addition, the media library is in partnership with Robion’s early childhood relay with which she develops readings, storytelling hours and small scripts.
The media library organises one-off events. Since its opening, it has hosted plays, a concert, conferences and exhibitions. Some of these events are organized independently while others are closely linked to the Cavaillon media library. In addition, since 1er In January 2014, the municipality is part of the new intercommunality Luberon-Monts de Vaucluse (LMV) which brings together the CCPLD, the community of communes of Coustellet (of which Maubec is a part) and the communes of Gordes and Beaumettes.
Intercommunality has among other things the competence of public reading. The CCPLD’s four media libraries are networked and the goal today is to expand the network to eight LMV media libraries, including the one in Maubec. Thus, there is a joint programme of activities between these eight media libraries.
The next major project of the media library is the creation of a multimedia space. Now equipped with the Internet, it wants to increase its cultural offer by offering CDs and DVDs on loan.
