Cheval Blanc Media Library
Cheval Blanc 84460 – Vaucluse Population: 4,248 (2012)
The commune of Cheval Blanc is part of the community of communes Provence Lubéron Durance (CCPLD) created in 2002. This includes the municipalities of Cavaillon, Mérindol, Cheval Blanc and Les Taillades. In 2006, as part of the transfer of the “Public Reading” competence to the community of commune, the CCPLD initiated a reflection on a territory project based on four lines of intervention. The 3th is the creation of better quality of life conditions in terms of provision and services to the population. The construction of a new media library is part of this axis of the territory project.
In 2009, the Cheval Blanc media library was housed in a 120 m² former SNCF factory. Penalized by its cramped, uncomfortable and unattractive premises, it was significantly behind in comparison with the three other CCPLD media libraries. The town of Cheval Blanc, in full expansion, required a media library adapted to its very diverse population.
The new Cheval Blanc media library now offers an opening time of 16 hours per week.
It is organized around three poles: the reception, services and conviviality pole, the loan and consultation pole of the collections, and finally the pole of the interior services.
The reception, service and user-friendliness areas include the access hall, the kiosk, the local public service, the reading, film and music lounge or café, the storytime area, the conference room and the group reception room. The spaces for lending and consulting collections are divided between youth, adults and multimedia while including a work room and a study room. Finally, domestic services include an office and an active reserve.
The four multimedia centres of the inter-community network. Thus, a member can borrow, book and return documents in each media library. In order to facilitate the transfer of collections from one media library to another, the inter-community has equipped itself, with the help of the DRAC, with a library, a utility vehicle for transporting documents. It serves as a shuttle between the municipalities and allows the rotation of the collections, the proper functioning of the reservation system and the carrying of documents at home. It is also used on an ad hoc basis for staff to attend training and to transport exhibits.
In fact, the Cheval Blanc media library offers different types of cultural activities such as exhibitions, conferences and meetings.
His specialty in intercommunality is the proposal of digital resources. Indeed, when it was created, the media library benefited from new furniture, hardware, IT and digital equipment. The Media Library now provides tablets with tools such as music applications, press applications, etc. It is the digital heart of the CCPLD.
