Vidauban – Community Media Library
Vidauban 83550 – Var Population: 10 105 (2012)
Housed in a former school from the 19th centuryth The Vidauban Media Library opened in 2007.
Renovated in 2006, the 400 m² of the media library is divided into several distinct spaces: workspace, comic strip area, press area, Internet reference room, youth area, documentary space and adult space.
The media library offers collections of books, periodicals, CDs, DVDs and digital resources. It makes the Internet available to everyone and organises introductory workshops on this new tool.
Its main acquisition axis is the discovery of literary, documentary, cinematographic or musical works. The media library seeks above all to enrich its holdings with comics, foreign literature, art and films by foreign authors dating from the last twenty years.
She is involved in the departmental youth committee and the reading committee of alternative comics.
During its weekly 24-hour opening, the media library hosts many cultural events. In fact, it works in partnership with the crèches, the recreation centre, the foyer 3th age, the school of community music, school children and the Museum of Folk Arts and Traditions with which she organizes film-museum evenings. Thursday is reserved for the reception of school students with whom she mounts projects spanning 6 or 7 sessions.
The media library also offers lectures, shows, workshops, meetings with authors, thematic evenings, exhibitions, tales and screenings. It schedules monthly meetings called “Fridays of the Media Library” which consist of exchanges on films, conferences or readings.
The city of Vidauban is part of the Dracénoise agglomeration community of 16 communes, 13 of which have a place dedicated to books. The intercommunality has built a public reading network allowing a fine territorial mesh of modern reading spaces. The network allows the readers to use a single borrowing card in all the establishments of the intercommunality. They can also use the common catalogue. A shuttle ensures the transfer of documents and works from one site to another.
The urban community works in partnership with the hospital. Its prospects for future actions are focused on activities outside the walls and the development of the digital tool.
