Ministry of Culture and Communication Policy for Parks and Gardens
Mis à jour le
From the 1930s onwards, reference texts marked the 20the century the renewal of gardens and the environment of monuments (Charter of Athens, Charter of Venice). But above all, the importance of charter of Florence which, in 1982, highlights, specifically and for the first time, a whole section of this cultural heritage that are gardens. This text, which has focused on the «historical» garden, paves the way for the national policy in favour of parks and gardens.
It is primarily the awareness of the state of abandonment of some prestigious gardens that has made it possible to start thinking about this abandoned heritage. By recognizing the existence of this domain, fragile and perishable because alive, it has allowed a real renaissance of this space and its heritage value.
Outside the various protections which exist in this field, the Ministry of Culture and Communication has made it its mission to accompany the knowledge of this space through the annual Go to the gardens as well as the attribution of the remarkable garden label.
