Cultural development and artistic presence in rural areas
The Drac Occitanie contributes to the cultural development of the territory by financing projects of territorial residences to create an artistic presence in isolated rural areas.
Territorial residences and third-place
The Drac Occitanie wishes to implement a concerted policy of artistic presence in the territory, via residencies of territory and third-places that can accommodate artists. The development of these residences supports the communities and structures that work to ensure that the artistic presence is the primary factor in meeting people.
The principles of a territorial residence
- a political approach that identifies the needs and challenges of the territory,
- a contribution to the dissemination of an artist’s creation in a given territory,
- an artistic presence among the inhabitants through the creation, dissemination and artistic practice adapted to the project of the territory and its expectations.
Territorial residences are the subject of a contract with the local authority concerned: municipality, community of municipalities, country, etc.
It is important to take into account the fact that the residence-mission is in no way confused with a creation residence since there is no production issue or work commission. For the artist-in-residence, it is a question, more precisely, of engaging artistically in a process of experimentation for the purposes of artistic education, giving to see and understand, in an innovative way, the research that drives it and the creative processes it implements.
NB.
These forms of intervention, of an artistic nature, differ, as clearly as possible, from "traditional" workshops of artistic practice or classes with artistic and cultural projects. They must therefore not be confused with these arrangements, which fall within other specifications for different purposes, procedures and separate funding.
