On January 20, at the Montpellier plant garden, the President of the Metropolis and Mayor of Montpellier, the Minister of Culture (remotely) and in the presence of the artist, Barthélémy Toguo, unveiled the design of the next tramway line, which will be built in 2025.

Tram line 5

Line 5 of Tramway will serve a new North/South/West travel diagonal of the metropolis of Montpellier. Scheduled for 2025, it responds to a concern for greener mobility both social and solidarity.

The trains of the future line 5 will combine performance and elegance with an original decoration created by Barthélémy Toguo and dedicated to science, research, and nature, according to the theme "Sciences et Botanique".

Creation of the cover for the trains of line 5

Barthélemy Toguo has been working for a long time on man/nature relations, whether in animal or plant man forms. It is anchored in its personal history as an African artist who lived in the countryside but also on a reflection of the current destiny of humanity, namely the consideration of the risks that a uncontrolled economic environment entails.  He calls this work "leaves of life"; there is the head of a man of profile, mouth open, from where the plants come out (symbol of harmony, balance and love...)

Two other associated works of art

At the same time two other works of art will adorn the stations of the two major places of the route of line 5: place de la Voie domitienne and place of 8 May 45.
