The Drac and its services
The Regional Directorate of Cultural Affairs (Drac) is a decentralized department of the Ministry of Culture.
In application of the Decree no. 2010-633 of 8 June 2010, it implements the cultural and heritage policy of the State, under the authority of the regional prefect and in connection with the local authorities.
In this context, Drac exercises a support, advisory, expertise and control function.
She is the privileged contact of elected officials, artists, professionals, associations and all the actors of the cultural sector.
It operates in particular in the areas of:
- knowledge, protection, conservation and enhancement of heritage,
- the promotion of architecture,
- support for artistic creation and dissemination in all their components,
- the development of books and reading,
- arts and cultural education and the transmission of knowledge,
- the development of cultural industries,
- the promotion of the French language and the languages of France.
The Drac participates in spatial planning and social cohesion and sustainable development policies.
It implements the regulations as well as the scientific and technical control in the areas covered by the Ministry of Culture.
It shall contribute to scientific research in matters within its competence.
Since January 1, 2016, the Drac Occitanie has been organized on the two sites of Toulouse and Montpellier, its headquarters was set by the Government in Montpellier.
Its services are divided into three "poles":
- the pole Creation,
- the pole Cultural and territorial action,
- the pole Heritage and architecture.
In order to be close to the institutions, the cultural actors and the communities, all the scientific, technical, artistic and administrative skills of the Drac continue to be exercised on its two sites.
The Drac also includes, in each of the thirteen departments, one departmental unit of architecture and heritage (Udap, ex-Stap).
