The 2023 Reading Nights will be thrilling from January 19 to 22, 2023. Among the 1000 events organized in Île-de-France, organized around the theme of fear, four exceptional evenings will offer to large and small readers to cultivate the taste of reading. A rich and surprising programme - which takes care to give a big place to young people and audiences far from reading - invites us to come together and find ourselves around the book and reading.
La 7e Nights of Reading in Île-de-France
In 2023, the Nuits de la Lecture returns with an ever richer and surprising program, with always a great place given to youth and audiences far from reading. During four exceptional evenings, from 19 to 22 January 2023, including a highlight on Saturday the 21st, the Nuits de la Lecture are the opportunity to propose meetings and animations in libraries, bookstores, roaming, but also in schools, cultural and artistic spaces, associative and solidarity spaces, prison, hospital and medico-social structures, thus reaffirming the essential place of books and reading among all.
Key figures for the 2023 edition in Île-de-France
A thrilling program
After a launch party at the Catacombs de Paris, Les Reading Nights 2023 offer among others:
Animations that will make you shudder, such as «La peur se la ra-conte» at the Bibliothèque Diane-de-poitiers d'Étampes (91), or the Projection of the film Häxan, Witchcraft through the Ages to the Paris 8 University Library in Saint-Denis (93); and many other events that are always more fascinating, all over Île-de-France.
Extraordinary animations in «Remarkable places»Among other things, a literary walk to the cemetery of Montmartre (Paris 18e), organized by the Bibliothèque Robert Sabatier; but also dance, with the show «Silent transformations» by Maxence Rey at the Maubuisson Abbey in Saint-Ouen-l'Aumône (95), and many other «Remarkable places» that offer you unique experiences.
Meetings throughout the territory with authors and authors, such as Nicolas Richard accompanied by musician Rubin Steiner at the Irish Cultural Centre (Paris 5e), Ludovic Lecomte at the Ru de Nesles media library in Champs-sur-Marne (77), or the author and illustrator Yvan Pommaux at the Louvre Museum Bookshop (Paris 1er), Marie Darrieussecq, sponsor of the 2023 edition, at the Quai media library in Charenton-le-Pont (94) and at the Ourcq B School (Paris 14e), and many others… In media library, in libraries as in bookshops and in schools… these meetings provide readings, writing workshops, debates, conferences and evenings which tend to bring together the people of Ile-de-France around the pleasure of reading and the love of books.
For families and young people, Les Reading nights propose a meeting with Marie Sellier and Marie Assénat at the bookseller of the Cluny Museum (Paris 5e), or musical readings at the Segrais media library in Lognes (77), and also workshops to face his fears at the Association fondation étudiante pour la ville (AFEV) in Créteil (94), or a writing challenge at the Toile de Jouy museum in Jouy-en-Josas (78) and many other events that are always more surprising.
Special attention to audiences away from reading… “Not even afraid!” A fairy tale show by Gilles Bizouerne offers a magical experience at the Hôpital Pitié Salpêtrière (Paris 13e); a reading workshop for parents and their children, supervised by the association Les Pâtes au Beurre, invites families for a wonderful adventure at the Family Resource Centre (Paris 10e); comics are in the spotlight at the Maison pour tous Berty Albrecht for the Nuit de la BD in Aubervilliers en Seine-Saint-Denis (93); but also readings «Fear of everything, fear of nothing!» or a session of bilingual French/Sign Language stories for children at the Institute for Hearing Impaired (IDA) Danielle Casanova in Argenteuil (95).
The DRAC Île-de-France in favour of books and reading
As the President of the Republic has declared “Grand cause nationale 2021-2022”, books and reading are one of the priorities of the State’s action. The DRAC Île-de-France supports, in a global policy of accompaniment, all the actors of the book chain, thus contributing to the development of reading and book on the Ile-de-France territory. From the author to the reader, his intervention is complete, with a global vision of the sector. Thus, its aid concerns both those involved in the book economy (writers, publishers, bookstores) and those involved in the public and associations working for the development of books and reading, particularly towards specific audiences.
For example, the DRAC is deploying the national “First Pages” operation, which is continuing its deployment in Île-de-France, making it possible to familiarise the general publicchildren in contact with the book but also the Youth in Bookshops operation promoting access to bookshops and books for high school students. The DRAC also supports many literary events in Paris, such as the youth book fair in Saint-Germain-lès-Arpajon (91). It accompanies the training structures for professionals in the sector. The largest part of its intervention is directed towards communities, in particular through strong support for investment in public reading equipment but also through territorial-reading, in the shadow of about twenty currently at the regional level.
