The Rhine Palace (Strasbourg)
The Rhine Palace is the seat of the Grand Est Regional Directorate of Cultural Affairs. This former imperial palace was built between 1883 and 1889 to house Emperor Wilhelm I. It is located on a prestigious axis and is part of the urban expansion project of the city of Strasbourg, the Neustadt.
Renamed Rhine Palace in 1920, during the relocation of the seat of the Central Commission for the Navigation of the Rhine, it will know several uses and will host several structures, including the current Regional Directorate of Cultural Affairs Grand Est.
Inspired by the Italian Renaissance and Baroque art, the architect Hermann Eggert designed a vast quadrilateral, the major element of which is an axal entrance body crowned with a square dome and preceded by a front body.
