The current museum is the former house of Jean-Félix Bapterosses, inventor of Briare enamels. It was in 1851 that Jean-Félix Bapterosses bought the Briare factory, which was in bankruptcy, and developed the manufacture of enamel buttons and pearls. He developed a technique that made it possible to democratize the art of mosaic. The master house was inhabited by his descendants until 1965.
