Gardens of the royal castleAmboise (37)
Labelled in 2017 | |
Wanted by King Louis-Philippe, lover of English gardens, the garden is arranged on a rocky outcrop facing the large landscape of the Loire Valley. The design, probably designed by architect Pierre-Bernard Lefranc, has been largely preserved. The garden offers a walk in several stages. The "Naples" garden is the first part. The visitor continues along the boxwood stands overlooking the vast amphitheatre of greenery, of which the Loire Valley is the backdrop. Then comes the "oriental garden" created in 2005. It is a cemetery garden, burial place of the companions of Emir Abdelkader, who died during his captivity in Amboise from 1848 to 1852.

Arboretum de la MartinièreVeined (37)
Labelled in 2017 Private property, 4 ha. Open to the public since 2000.
The garden was created on an old sand quarry in the mid-1960s. Nearly forty years of plantations have allowed to sculpt a landscape where alternate groves and meadows. Paths allow a path through the grass and undergrowth. About 1000 species of trees and shrubs were planted and more than 100 species of bamboo. A dike separates two ponds with a coniferous forest at the bottom of the slope. Going up to the foot of the hillside we discover the wooden house surrounded by vegetation. A greenhouse is attached to the house. The visit ends at the house, under the high wind, with a green roof. The arboretum of Martinière exhibits artists of "Land Art" every year from June to November. |
