Book and reading - Pôle Publics et Territoires -
The DRAC’s interventions in the field of books and reading have two objectives: the democratization of access to reading and support for all actors in the "book chain": authors, publishing houses, bookshops, libraries. Created in the 1960s, the concept of "public reading" arose from the concern to disseminate reading to all audiences through public bodies (municipal libraries, departmental lending libraries) and the networks that bring them together. The Ministry of Culture thus develops an important policy of public reading through various mechanisms (private competitions, contract city reading...).

Within the framework of the Written Heritage Action Plan (POPE), the Book and Reading Service (SLL) launches every year a national call for projects "Written Heritage", intended to support projects concerning the heritage collections of libraries belonging to local authorities and public institutions of inter-communal cooperation. Launch in December. For more information: Library heritage
