Military works
The defence of Guadeloupe, Saint Martin and Saint Barthélemy has always been a major problem for the authorities of the colony and the royal power, since many nations in the Caribbean are fighting for the conquest of territories. In the face of European military conflicts and their repercussions, the islands of the colony protected themselves against the risks of attacks from the sea. As a result, the coastline has been laid out with numerous fortifications; batteries, entrenchments and forts. Many of these works are studied, restored and enhanced by archaeological interventions, by the Historical Monuments, the Departmental Council, the Region and the overseas communities.
