For this 4th edition of Opera on Screens, Angers Nantes Opera and the Rennes Opera make accessible to all "The Elixir of Love" by Gaetano Donizetti, a great classic of Italian opera and beautiful canto.
A unique cultural event
On Thursday 15 June 2023, Angers Nantes Opéra and the Rennes Opera will once again be joining forces to present the new production to spectators from both regions and to more than 50 cities in the Brittany and Loire regions: Donizetti’s Love Elixir.
She will be live at the Graslin Theatre of Nantes and retransmission free of charge in Angers, Nantes, Rennes and other cities on giant outdoor and indoor screens (cinemas, theatres, neighbourhood houses and local television channels).
A warm experience
«The Elixir of Love» is one of the most joyful and tender operas in the entire Italian repertoire. It is also one of Donizetti’s greatest triumphs.
This love story combining humour and depth of feelings will come to life in a very visual setting. David Lescot, a man of the theatre and a musician, gives life to the characters of Donizetti under the sign of cheerfulness, truculence and pleasure.
This lyrical evening becomes accessible to more than 7 million spectators thanks to the financial, technical and human resources of France Télévisions and their local antennas.
The two opera houses entrusted the realization of this recording to the director, Jean-Pierre Loisil, and the production to Cinétévé.
Angers Nantes Opéra
An essential musical actor on the French opera scene, Angers Nantes Opéra pushes the boundaries of opera. Beyond lyric art, it is the voice in all its states that illustrates all its action. Each season, with a permanent concern for opening, Angers Nantes Opera co-produces or hosts nearly five operas, about thirty concerts - classical or contemporary - and film concerts, up to three dance shows and initiates many artistic projects in the territories of the Pays de la Loire for school audiences, students and amateurs. Alongside his choir of twenty-eight singers, the lyrical artists he hosts in residence, the Orchestre National des Pays de la Loire with whom he has a close relationship, Angers Nantes Opéra is deploying its programming at the Graslin Theatre (Nantes), at the Quai (Angers), at the Grand Théâtre (Angers), at and with partner venues (Opéra de Rennes, Cité des Congrès de Nantes, la Soufflerie in Rezé) but also in public spaces (Opera on screen) and heritage places. Because Angers Nantes Opera works every year to make the opera more accessible, it attracts nearly 60,000 spectators.
Since 2018 Angers Nantes Opéra has been under the direction of Alain Surrans.
