A must-see exhibition
This year, the Nantes Museum of Arts wanted to explore the deeply human and sensitive nature of hyperrealistic sculpture.
Entirely dedicated to the movement of hyperrealistic sculpture, this exhibition will take place from April 7 to September 3, 2023.
Works of breathtaking realism
The exhibition presents about thirty works, from national and international institutions, all dedicated to human representation.
The ensemble is organized in three sections in the Patio of the museum:
- « From true to false » explores the mimetic capacity of these works, their relationship to the spectators in the context of the museum and their links with the history of sculpture.
- « Bodies, fictions, mirrors » illustrates the narrative capacities of these installations, and traces the emergence of hyperrealistic sculpture in the 1960s in the United States, in connection with Pop Art, and in opposition to abstraction.
- « The paradox of the’invisible » is attached to the richness of hyperrealism: its ability to make visible the unspeakable, the impalpable and the sensitive through new technical means.
A sensitive and hyper realistic experience
The exhibition Hyper sensible questions, through its sensitive approach, the way we look at works that resemble us. It brings to the fore the work of artists, some of whom have little exposure in France. It brings together artists whose work is exclusively hyperrealistic and others who make partial or occasional use of it.
By replaying the formal issues of sculpture, by implementing extremely elaborate techniques, artists reveal the existing, by making visible what is not visible but which reaches us in our emotions: sensitivity.
