7th National Architecture Days

The National Architecture Days aim to develop the architectural knowledge of the general public. They propose to unveil the richness of remarkable contemporary architecture wherever it is found, to tell the story of the built environment around us, to awaken curiosities and artistic sensibilities and to value the cultural contribution, scientific, technical and social architecture for the well-being of all.

Plan 5

This event is organized in collaboration with the collective Plan 5 which brings together the institutional actors and associations of dissemination and promotion of architecture in the Pays de la Loire. It consists of the Ecole nationale supérieure d'architecture de Nantes, the Regional Council of the Order of Architects, the Union régionale des CAUE and the 5 regional CAUE, the Maison régionale de l'architecture des Pays de la Loire, the Regional Association for the Dissemination and Promotion of Architecture and the DRAC. The objective of Plan 5 is to coordinate their actions and enhance the transmission of architecture in its creative and cultural dimension.

Public events to broaden the view of architecture

In the imagination of the inhabitants, architecture is often reserved for monuments and large facilities. The rest of our living environment would be made of buildings. However, whether it is scholarly or popular, small or large, public or private, everything is architecture in our environment.
It is to this broadening of perspective that the National Days of Architecture invite by simultaneously stimulating and federating, in all regions, events promoting architecture in the broad sense including urban planning and housing.

The event is aimed at children, young people and adults, in a festive and educational dimension. The aim is to reveal the richness of remarkable contemporary architecture wherever it is found, to promote the understanding by all citizens of the challenge that architecture represents in improving the living environment, to tell the story of the built environment that surrounds us, to awaken the curiosities and artistic sensibilities and to value the cultural, scientific, technical and social contribution of architecture, around three main objectives:
- to show architecture as it is, simple and inhabited, at the heart of our daily life;
- nurturing the architectural culture of all audiences;
- give the keys to view and live the architecture.

The theme 2022 : thème "Architectures to inhabit"

This 7^e The theme of the edition is «Architectures to inhabit». A broad theme that allows the public to discover inhabited places, from housing to the neighborhood that surrounds them, to discover the qualities.
It is also an opportunity to understand how architects design living spaces or how construction and rehabilitation techniques involve healthier, more resource-efficient materials.

« Look up » : an awareness-raising action in schools

Since 2019, Friday is more specifically dedicated to the “Raise your eyes” architectural heritage awareness campaign., organized in partnership by the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of National Education and Youth, in charge of schools.
The objective is to make young people aware of their architectural environment, and to propose to them, accompanied by their teachers, discoveries of elements of the architectural heritage located near their school, to learn to read and live the architecture.

Activities throughout the territory

Meetings and debates with architecture stakeholders, visits to architectural agencies, buildings and construction sites, city walks, exhibitions, film screenings and educational workshops, as many opportunities to discover architecture and the profession of architect.

A friendly moment with a drink.

"They’re going to put an elevator in my kitchen, you know? An elevator? They’re crazy!" testifies Mrs C., 95 years old, a few weeks before the beginning of the work. Since then, the renovation of the Bois-le-Prêtre tower by the architects Druot, Lacaton and Vassal has been praised by international critics and has been carried out in an inhabited area.

The film goes to meet its inhabitants and follows them throughout the three years of construction. Through the slow mutation of these spaces full of stories, it is the attachment that we all maintain with our internals that is made visible.

Crossing the Loire: between new uses and the preservation of heritage, what challenges for the Loire bridges

The bridges are an emblematic motif of the exceptional landscape of the Loire Valley, recognized internationally.

In order to better understand, preserve and showcase this remarkable heritage, the DRAC des Pays de la Loire and the Mission Val de Loire have created the program «Franchir la Loire», available in podcast.

Following the four episodes broadcast in 2021, this round table invites us to reflect on the challenges of preserving the Loire bridges: how to bring together heritage protection and new issues related to the development of territories and new mobilities?

The Lodges - Individual House Visit

The frame consists of walls in wood frame, composed of insulated boxes in straw and wood wool. The use of raw and apparent material, such as the ceiling CLT, the chestnut on the facade, the ventilation ducts, and finally the concrete on the floor, enhances these aesthetic elements. Part of the cover is vegetated and the other covered with solar panels.

A visit proposed by IE Architecture - Vincent HEMERY as part of the 6th edition of Habiter Bois. A Fibois Pays de la Loire event, an interprofessional association for the promotion of wood in the Pays de la Loire region.

Sensitive perspectives on architecture

In parallel with the visits «Architectures à habiter», we invite you to discover the exhibition «Carnets de chantiers en Pays de la Loire» which questions our representations of architecture and constructive processes by confronting us with those of 15 designers, architects or graduates in architecture and 5 videographers.

Invited to report on the life of the shipyard, they give us their interpretations, punctuated with details and comments. The work of drawing reveals poetic views and delivers a collection of sensitive snapshots, composed of volumes, frames, lights and rhythms. In echo, the films highlight the ephemeral and rapid evolution of construction sites, placing workers at the heart of their stories. 300 drawings and sketches/ 15 sketchbooks/ 5 films/ 3 notebooks made in Sarthe
