Who are we?
A decentralized department of the Ministry of Culture, the Regional Directorate of Cultural Affairs (DRAC) implements the State’s cultural policy in Nouvelle-Aquitaine.
Our organization
Under the authority of the Prefecture of Region and prefectures of departments, the DRAC is organized into three main areas of competence:
Cultural creation and industries
Cultural democratization and territorial action
At local level, it relies on 12 Departmental Units of Architecture and Heritage (UDAP): in Charente, Charente-Maritime, Creuse, Corrèze, Dordogne, Gironde, Landes, Lot-et-Garonne, Pyrénées-Atlantiques (2 antennas), Deux-Sèvres, Vienna and Haute-Vienne.
Our missions
Representing the Ministry of Culture and all its services in the New Aquitaine territory, the DRAC implements the State’s cultural policy in the areas of:
- knowledge, protection, conservation and enhancement of heritage;
- the promotion of architecture
- artistic creation, to which it lends its support in all its components;
- public reading;
- arts and cultural education and knowledge transmission;
- promoting cultural diversity and broadening audiences;
- the economy of culture and cultural industries;
- the promotion of the French language and the languages of France.
In coordination or support of its partners, namely local and regional authorities, public inter-communal cooperation institutions and the voluntary sector, it provides leadership functions, The European Commission is responsible for providing advice, monitoring and evaluation in all these sectors and for ensuring the application of laws and regulations in the cultural field.
Cultural policies led by the DRAC
At the local level, the DRAC contractualizes with local authorities around the challenges ofarts and cultural education, public reading and support for young talent and artistic employment, including through artist residencies. In addition, it works on the development of digital technologies in mediation and knowledge transmission actions.
