Books and reading in Nouvelle-Aquitaine
The DRAC Nouvelle-Aquitaine implements the policy defined by the Ministry of Culture in terms of the development of public reading, support for the book economy and encouragement to creation and literary life, to preserve and enhance written heritage.
This action is led by book and reading advisors who advise and accompany local authorities, book and culture professionals around the following axes:
Public reading
• the construction, modernization, development and computer or digital equipment of libraries, as well as the extension of opening hours, as part of the special competition within the general decentralization endowment (DGD) for municipal libraries and departmental lending libraries, or new public services combining written heritage and public reading as part of the Reference Digital Library program;
• access for all to books and literature, particularly in the context of contracts territories reading (CTL).

Literary creation and the presence of authors on the regional territory, including residencies and original forms of literature promotion.
Book sector contract in Nouvelle-Aquitaine
The joint action of the DRAC Nouvelle-Aquitaine, the National Book Centre and the Regional Council of Nouvelle-Aquitaine has been contractualized since April 4, 2018, in the form of a Livre Nouvelle-Aquitaine sector contract, with support mechanisms from creation to mediation: authors, publishers, bookstores, structures of mediation of the book.
Book economy
• modernization of publishing houses and bookstores;
• the labelling of independent reference bookstores (LIRA) and reference bookstores (LR), local cultural shops essential in the attractiveness of the territories.
Training and information for book professionals
• training with a regional training plan for book trades with Mediaquitaine and Media Centre West, regional library training centres, the CNFPT and local and university libraries;
• the interprofession and the cohesion of the book chain based in particular on: the Agence Livre cinéma audiovisuel in Nouvelle-Aquitaine (ALCA), or the association Librairies indépendants en Nouvelle-Aquitaine.
