Music and dance
As an integral part of the artistic creation sector, the music and dance department is responsible for implementing in Normandy the state support for the creation and artistic diffusion in the fields of music and dance.
The department in charge of music and dance supports and accompanies the many initiatives in these areas in order to improve the development conditions in Normandy of music and dance. It promotes the creation, optimization of networks and the structuring of professional dissemination, the enhancement of musical and choreographic heritage.
In this respect, the service carries out an analysis of the specificities and strengths of the region. This global action to implement the guidelines of the Ministry of Culture and Communication uses different modes of intervention on the ground and is based on the evaluation of artistic creations, advice to cultural actors, information on the musical, choreographic life of the region.
Normandy includes a large number of artistic creation and dissemination structures, supported by the DRAC, some of which are part of national networks such as orchestras, national stages, contemporary music scenes (SMAC), the agreed scenes, the broadcast networks, the agreed musical ensembles. The structuring of these networks is a priority for the State, as they are the major tool for registering a global policy in a given territory.
In the field of creation, the music and dance department monitors and evaluates the work of the companies, provides them with advice and, after consulting the committees of experts, proposes financial support measures, with a constant concern for a search for new aesthetic forms. In terms of the dissemination of these works and their meeting with the public, structures engaged in a process of welcoming creators and seeking new audiences are particularly followed.
Finally, awareness of the artistic practices of the school public is the subject of particular attention, in connection with the Ministry of National Education and in connection with the service for arts and cultural education.
