Seventh Maison des Illustres labelling campaign
Launched by the Minister of Culture and Communication in September 2011, the label «Maisons des Illustres» was created to highlight the places whose vocation is to preserve and transmit the memory of the women and men who lived in them and who have distinguished themselves in the political, scientific, social and cultural history of France.

Present in all metropolitan regions as in the Overseas Territories, these houses draw a real cartography, both unusual and close, of the places where the history of our country was shaped. These places show how the heritage is a living territory, animated by a spirit of places and times, how it is nourished by the personality and sensitivity of those who left their mark on it and inhabited it.
The “Maisons des Illustres” are places of memory that allow us to better connect local history with national history, intimacy and collective. They reveal the role played by political, religious, scientific and artistic actors whose cultural dimension the Ministry of Culture and Communication intends to have recognized.
To receive this label, each Maisondoit has to meet a number of conditions, including opening their doors to visitors more than 40 days a year and pursuing a goal that is not primarily commercial. The label thus guarantees visitors a high-quality cultural programme and means of accompanying the visit adapted to everyone, especially the school public and people with disabilities.
To date 212 houses have been labeled.

It must be returned to the Regional Directorate of Cultural Affairs of your region by email or by mail (completed information sheet, supporting documents, additional communication materials such as brochures, DVD, cultural program...).
The timetable of the 7th labelling campaign
Monday20 mar 2017 - Friday 23 jun 2017: Submission of application files.
Monday, June 26 2017 – monday July 31 2017: Examination of files by the Regional Cultural Affairs Directorates and transmission to the Public Policy Department of the Directorate-General for Heritage.
September 2017– Files are processed by the Public Policy Department.
October 2017: Commission nationale d'attribution du label Maisons des Illustres, announces the results of the new labeled houses.
