Guide to remarkable gardens in Normandy
The guide of the Remarkable Gardens of Normandy is the first publication that brings together the Normandy gardens labeled and invites to beautiful walks through the 37 gardens of the region, including the most famous as the garden of the museum of impressionism in Giverny, the Etretat Gardens, the Jacques Prévert Garden in La Hague, the Vendeuvre Castle Gardens or the Montperthuis Gardens in Chemilli
Very few are those who are indifferent to gardens. A source of inexhaustible pleasure, they attract their audience: the lover of flowers or botany, gardening, landscape, history, nature finds his account and the walker can be simply happy and grateful to immerse himself in this universe.
The gardens are the expression of a multitude of scientific and artisanal know-how. Many professions are open to their realization, echoing various sensitivities. Being interested in gardens means being interested in the world: geography, climate, plants and their history, agricultural and botanical production, but also in architecture, geometry, the history of the art of taste and ideas.
In 2004, the Ministry of Culture created the label "Remarkable Garden" to meet this growing need for discovery and sharing of the garden universe. Awarded for a renewable period of five years, the label highlights quality gardens and parks, public or private, open to the public, well maintained and of cultural, aesthetic, historical or botanical interest.
Today, Normandy, land of gardens if there is and, has 37 labeled gardens, of a great diversity: historical garden or contemporary creation, classical or landscaped, representing a botanical or architectural interest, they bear witness both to the region’s very favourable natural conditions and to its ancient history of openness to distant worlds. They are also proof of the attraction of everyone, rarely denied, for the development of these places, small paradises created on the multiple scale of the ways of living and of arranging his universe.
