Museum Night 2023
The 19th edition of the European Night of Museums will take place on Saturday, May 13, 2023, from nightfall until 1 a.m. The Ministry of Culture invites the public to experience the museum for free.
All over Europe, nearly 3,400 museums (including 1,300 in France) will offer a special programme to discover or rediscover their rich collections, through guided tours, fun tours, workshops, screenings but also live entertainment and exceptional animations.
Under the gaze of Méduse (May 12 to September 17, MBA Caen)
A key figure in Greek mythology, Medusa has exercised its power of fascination over many generations of artists who have contributed to the creation of a repertoire of images of incredible richness. Commonly recognizable by its hair teeming with snakes and its wide-eyed, the figure of Medusa has not ceased to renew through the ages. The exhibition of the Museum of Fine Arts in Caen is dedicated to the evolution of these representations, from the first iconographic sources of Antiquity to the most recent artistic productions.The itinerary brings together sixty-six artistsfive works preserved in French and international collections, produced by the greatest artists.
From Crésilas, sculptor of Greek antiquity, to the current artists: Benvenuto Cellini, Sandro Botticelli, Pierre Paul Rubens, Gian Lorenzo Bernini, Adèle d'Affry, Jean-Marc Nattier, Theodor van Thulden, Maxmilián Pirner, Franz von Stuck, Edward Burne-Jones, Antoine Bourdelle, Auguste Rodin, Alberto Giacometti, Luciano Garbati, Laetitia Ky, Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster... The exhibition covers the fields of painting, sculpture, drawing, prints, photography, decorative arts, cinema and video games. - Saturday, May 20, 2023 from 2 to 5 pm: collective creation workshop at the Centre chorégraphique
- Sunday, May 21, 2023: Meet at 10:00 a.m. at the National Gallery for breakfast followed by a private tour (only opens at 11:00 a.m.) of the exhibition *Under the gaze of Medusa then descent to the Place Courtonne for an experiment around immobility.
