Aid for theatre and associated arts
As an integral part of the artistic creation sector, the Department of Theatre and Associated Arts is responsible for implementing State support for the creation and dissemination of art in the fields of theatre, circus, street, puppetry, object theatre, mime and speech.
The theatre and associated arts department promotes the creation, optimization of networks and the structuring of professional diffusion, the enhancement of dramatic heritage.
In this respect, the service carries out an analysis of the specificities and strengths of the region. This global action to implement the guidelines of the Ministry of Culture uses different modes of intervention on the ground and is based on the evaluation of artistic creations, advice to cultural actors, information on the theatrical and circus life of the region.
Normandy includes a large number of artistic creation and dissemination structures, supported by the DRAC, some of which are part of national networks such as the National Drama Centres (CDN), the National Scenes, the Conventional Scenes, the National Circus Poles, the National Puppetry Centre, the CNAREP (National Center of Street Arts and Public Space), the broadcasting networks, the companies that have signed agreements. The structuring of these networks is a priority for the State, as they are the major tool for registering a global policy in a given territory.
In the field of creation, the service monitors and evaluates the work of the companies, gives them advice and, after consulting the committees of experts, proposes financial support measures, with a constant concern for a search for new aesthetic forms. In terms of the dissemination of these works and their meeting with the public, structures engaged in a process of welcoming creators and seeking new audiences are particularly followed.
Finally, awareness of the artistic practices of the school public is the subject of particular attention, in connection with the Ministry of National Education and in connection with the service for arts and cultural education.
For several years, the Ministry of Culture has been working on a reform of the support system for artistic teams, which is about to be completed. Currently, the legal framework for the award of aid is defined by:
- Decree No. 2021-1608 of 8 December 2021 amending Decree No. 2015-641 of 8 June 2015 on the allocation of decentralized grants to performing arts
- Decree of 16 December 2021 on the conditions for awarding and submission of applications for aid decentralized to live entertainment
- Circular (coming soon)
- Appendices to the circular
Support is provided by the decentralised services of the Ministry of Culture - the Regional Cultural Affairs Directorates (DRAC), following the advice of regional advisory committees.
The members of these commissions, who work on a voluntary basis, are chosen for their skills in theatre, circus, puppetry, the street, or a related field. The composition of the Regional Advisory Commission for the Allocation of Decentralized Aid for Live Entertainment can be downloaded at the bottom of the page.
These aids are of two kinds:
- Aid for projects (Aid for Dramatic Production), annual
- aid for multi annual agreements
They are awarded after the admissibility of the application has been examined, an opinion has been obtained from an advisory committee of experts in the field of live entertainment and a decision has been taken by the regional directorates.
