It is the only National Drama Centre south of Paris
Since its creation in 1972, the Théâtre des Quartiers d'Ivry, through the artists who have been its successive directors, Antoine Vitez, Philippe Adrien, Catherine Dasté and today Elisabeth Chailloux and Adel Hakim, is committed, with the constant support of the Ministry of Culture and Communication, the city of Ivry-sur-Seine and the Departmental Council of Val-de-Marne, to the creation and distribution of dramatic works of reference, striving to develop a close and original link with audiences thanks, in particular, to a "school of the spectator" of which one of the expressions is the Theatrical Workshop. Genesis of the project, 12 years of history Conscious of the interest of the existence of a large Art Center dedicated to the theater in Ivry and in the department, impelled from its origin by Pierre Gosnat, mayor of Ivry, the City, the County Council of Val-Saint-Denisde-Marne and the Ministry of Culture have clearly stated their willingness to support the project of the Théâtre des Quartiers d'Ivry, Centre Dramatique National du Val-de-Marne. The originality of the Théâtre des Quartiers d'Ivry |
consists in organizing its activity around several essential axes :
In 2003, this project, defined and established in agreement with the various partners, begins to be realized thanks to the new resources allocated and made available to the structure. The Théâtre des Quartiers d'Ivry, by decision of the Ministry of Culture, the City of Ivry and the Departmental Council of Val-de-Marne, following the merger with the Théâtre du Campagnol, Centre Dramatique National directed by Jean-Pierre RousseauClaude Penchenat, was then entrusted with a mission of decentralization on Ivry and Val-de-Marne and prefiguration of a National Dramatic Center. This "labelling" is a strong recognition of the artistic project carried with passion by the Théâtre des Quartiers d'Ivry since its inception, as well as the tireless support of the City in favor of theatre, and more broadly for arts and culture, on its territory. In 2009, the acquisition of the site of the Manufacture des Œillets by the municipality opens new perspectives and marks a decisive step for the creation of the Théâtre des Quartiers d'Ivry - Centre Dramatique National du Val-de-Marne of full effect. In 2010, the objective of signing a dramatic decentralization contract with the Théâtre des Quartiers d'Ivry is then reaffirmed by the Minister of Culture and Communication of the time, in the perspective of its installation at the Manufacture des Œillets. The operation of Implantation of the Théâtre des Quartiers d'Ivry, Centre Dramatique National du Val-de-Marne at the Manufacture des Œillets" was born. It is managed by the City of Ivry, owner of the premises and owner, in close collaboration with the historical partners of the Théâtre des Quartiers d'Ivry, namely the Regional Directorate of Cultural Affairs of Île-de-France and the Val-de-France Departmentde Marne, as well as the Île-de-France region. |
The architectural project, its spirit and its great features
The Centre Dramatique National du Val-de-Marne is the work of the architect Paul Ravaux. The new vocation of the premises is marked by the construction of an extension to the north gable of the 19th century hall, affirming the proper identity of the equipment and the transformation of the site, while integrating with harmony and a relative discretion to the immediate environment inscribed in the Inventory of Historical Monuments. Inside the buildings, the architectural project responds with subtlety and requirement to the delicate combination of functional and scenic-technical expectations of a 21st century theater and a necessary preservation of the place. At the end of the work and in accordance with the specifications of the NDCs, the establishment will include in the existing built volumes of the hall and the American building: the Fabrique: a modern and efficient hall, modular with space for 400 spectators; the lantern: a rehearsal room and shows dedicated to new writing, for directors, companies or emerging collectives that can accommodate up to 80 spectators; the hall: a public reception area with bar and bookshop, where meetings, readings, literary or philosophical cafés can be held; the Theatrical workshop: a space dedicated to the theatrical practice of amateurs; dressing rooms; offices for administration.
A site in the making, a growing cultural hub
Under the aegis of its former owner and then the City of Ivry, the Manufacture des Œillets has begun its conversion into a cultural site. A former industrial factory, it is gradually establishing itself as an artistic and cultural factory. The cultural hub already exists. The installation in 2011 of the Centre d'art contemporain d'Ivry - le Crédac par la Ville bears witness to this.La Manufacture des Œillets was then returned to its initial activity of production workshop: creation, maturation and production workshops for visual artists; workshops of artistic practices, experimentation and documentation for different audiences, curious about visual arts; moments of discussion and reflection during workshops, meetings and debates. At the same time, the City of Ivry has also promoted the maintenance of EPSaa, the school of graphic design of the City of Paris present since 2001, because it participates in this dynamic of creation and training around objects of communication and/ or culture.
With the establishment of the Théâtre des Quartiers d'Ivry, Centre Dramatique National du Val-de-Marne, a step has been taken. The Manufacture des Œillets is destined to become a major cultural hub in the Ile-de-France region of creation, training and dissemination, a source of crossovers between artistic and public disciplines, crucibles of experimentation, mutual enrichment, proliferation, life.
The geographical situation of the site contributes to this. Ideally located at the gates of Paris, in the heart of the city of Ivry, it is easily accessible by public transport and road. In addition, it is part of the construction of the new face of the City. It is geographically part of the development perimeter of the Gagarine-Truillot city proposed to ANRU 2 and adjoins the Operation of National Interest Ivry Confluences, thus at the crossroads of major urban development projects.
Unique CDN in the south of Paris, the Théâtre des Quartiers d'Ivry, Centre dramatique national du Val-de-Marne is therefore destined to become an exceptional place, synthesis of the past and the future.
