The exhibition What the Masters have best. Matisse, student and teacher, 1890-1911” to be held from November 9, 2019 – February 9, 2020 at the Matisse du Cateau Cambraisis Departmental Museum has received the label “Exhibition of National Interest”.

Franck Riester, Minister of Culture has selected a list of 15 exhibitions, presented in museums in France, to award them the label «Exhibition of National Interest» in 2019.

The Minister stressed that “these exhibitions contribute to the territorial policy of action and to a better distribution of state aid among the project-carrying communities.”

Created by the Ministry of Culture to highlight and support remarkable exhibitions organized by museums in France, this label rewards an innovative museum discourse, a novel thematic approach, a scenography and a mechanism of mediation intended for the most varied audiences, especially in the context of arts and cultural education.

These «Exhibitions of national interest» are part of the policy of cultural democratization led by the Ministry of Culture. They highlight themes that reflect the richness and diversity of the collections of 1,220 museums in France. Exceptional grants awarded to selected projects
