Of the 20 exhibitions that have received the “exhibition of national interest” label awarded for 2013 by the Minister of Culture and Communication, two are held in the Nord-Pas-de-Calais region.

These are:

am A renaissance, art between Flanders and Champagne

This exhibition aims to re-examine the artistic relations between the Meuse region and North-East France during this period of remarkable artistic flowering and profound aesthetic, intellectual and cultural changes. A new iconography and a more naturalistic approach flourished in illuminated manuscripts, monumental sculpture and goldsmithing. In scientific partnership with the Cluny Museum, this exhibition is accompanied by a cultural season animated by all the cultural actors of the territory.

Saint Omer, Sand Hotel Museumelin, April 5 – July 1, 2013

am Picasso, Léger, Masson: the history of a gallery

Thirty years after the opening of the Museum of Modern Art in Villeneuve-d'Asq, this parallel display of two of the most beautiful collections of modern art in France offers a new perspective on a whole range of 20th century artistic creation. More than 200 paintings, drawings and sculptures by the greatest masters of modern art: Pablo Picasso, Georges Braque, Fernand Léger, Henri Laurens, Joan Miro, Françis Bacon, André Masson, Alberto Giacometti... dialogue to retrace the particular context that nourishes a certain vision of art and avant-garde open to the world and the discovery of what was then called "Negro art".
