On Saturday, May 6, the inauguration of the cultural pole «Le Cuivre» took place in Labourse in Pas-de-Calais. Discovery of this atypical place combining a media library and the municipal school of music.

Right in the middle center of the commune, the new cultural hub of Ploughing adjoins the Saint-Martin church, the oldest in the department. The unmissable building is copper-coated and consists of large bay windows in order to give the patrons a breathtaking view of the church.

Cabinet-produced Landscape + Architecture, the building has a modular furniture allowing everyone to enjoy the facilities but also to host cultural events.

Accession to the media library and the borrowing are free for users. The public can find books, DVDs, CDs, board games and even video games, computer equipment is also available.

The role of the State

The ministry of culture, in close coordination with the Ministry of Ecological Transition and Territorial Cohesion (Directorate-General for Local Authorities) , follows the questions relating to State aid for the benefit of libraries projects of local authorities (municipal libraries and departmental libraries).  

In this context, the cultural hub «Le Cuivre» received more than 400. 000€ ofaid from the prefecture of the Hauts-de-France region, in the form of a special competition within the General Decentralisation Allocation (DGD), integrating the first equipment and collections for the public reading part.

The Media Library aims to integrate into the future network supported by the Community of Agglomeration of Béthune Bruay Artois Lys Romane, including a Contract Territory Reading, currently being defined, which could be signed in the fall.
