With the support of the Ministry of Culture and the Society of Friends of Arts and Museums of Strasbourg (SAAMS), the Museums of the City of Strasbourg were able to acquire in 2019 a rare work of Simon Vouet (1590-1649): The Martyrdom of Saint Catherine. The painting, after restoration, enriches the collections of the Museum of Fine Arts of Strasbourg.
A restaurantC2RMF, funded through sponsorship
The state of conservation of the painting, which is probably explained by its turbulent history, required a very important restoration, from summer 2019 until January 2023, in the workshops of the Centre de Recherche et de Restauration des Musées de France (C2RMF) in Versailles.
Gilles Bastian, of C2RMF, had conducted a scientific study of the painting, prior to its acquisition in 2019.
Cécile Gouton and Ludovic Roudet intervened respectively for the pictorial layer and for the support, under the guidance of Orlane Lavit, curator of Heritage.
