The cathedral suffered very serious damage during bombing and fire during the First World War. It is one of the major achievements of Gothic art in France, inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
Historithat restorations
This project is part of a campaign to restore the bedside. A global study of the bedside was conducted by chief architect Dominique Moufle in 2001 and the first span was restored by chief architect Lionel Dubois from June 2009 to April 2013. It is on this basis that this operation is conducted.
Presentation ofs disorders
Masonry is dirty, especially on high parts. This fouling is accentuated by the contrast offered by the cleaning initiated during the campaign to restore the nearby bay. The epidermis of some stones has important desquamations. Many lack of decorative sculptures are noteworthy, especially in the pinnacle and cornices. A gargoyle and an angel are in very bad condition.
The stained-glass windows of the high bays survived the ravages of the two wars. They are figurative stained-glass windows dating from approximately 1240. Already restored, they are now in fair condition and require revision.
The warning signs of slippage of the lead sheets of the roof appeared in the form of grubbing or scalding of their lower part. This deformation results from the upper part of the attachment to the flight and from the lateral support by the rolled joints. The metal flutes under the effect of heat deforms and overloads the fixations of the neighbouring leaves.
The restaurant biasration
The building will be restored in the same way as its current layout in view of its history and its stylistic and technical particularities. The aim will be to improve the general health of the building, notably by repairing the roofs and restoring the statuary. The fixing of the lead plates will be improved by the addition of a copper sheet at the head of the lead sheet which folds on the top of the lead sheet and provides a support in the head in order to prolong its holding in time.
