Important works, financed entirely by the State for the benefit of the cathedral complex of Saint-Dié-des-Vosges, are being completed. On the cathedral, this work concerns the sealing of the terraces, an operation carried out as part of the Plan for the Recovery of the Economy, and on the Church of Our Lady of Galilee, the repair of electrical installations and the installation of lighting for enhancement.
The Cathedral of Saint-Dié-des-Vosges
Repairing the waterproofing of the terraces
The Cathedral of Saint-Dié-des-Vosges, property of the State - Ministry of Culture, classified as a historical monument since 1886, constitutes, with the Church of Our Lady of Galilee and the cloister that connects them, a cathedral ensemble having known successive contributions, reconstructions and reshapings and different styles, unified by the pink sandstone color of the Vosges.
Construction began at the end of December 2021. The concrete terraces have been replaced by new roofs, with copper cladding and tile roofs on the north and south sides restored.
At the same time, the restoration of the walls of the interior vaults located on the terraces is also carried out.
The intervention, amounting to 434,742 euros, is carried out as part of the economic recovery plan (100% state).
Our Lady of Galilee Church
Electrical installations and development lighting
Work is also being done for the Church of Our Lady of Galilee. This building, also listed in 1886, is a remarkable example of South Lorraine Romanesque art. Having escaped destruction during the Second World War, the building retains the provisions dating from its reconstruction in XIIe century, after the fire of 1155.
The work is aimed at renewing the electrical installations and lighting highlighting the interior of the church. The quality of the lighting will be improved thanks to a suitable number of projectors, installed at the level of the cornice and the shafts of the column capitals.
In order to harmonize the integration of these installations, accompanying works have also been planned to pave the soil. These were carried out under the control of the DRAC Grand Est - Service régional de l'archéologie.
The recovery in search of plaster and the general repair of the brush on the vaults and the walls of the tribune must complete this intervention.
This operation is also financed entirely by the State - DRAC Grand Est, for an amount of 644,257 euros.
