The State is working on the restoration of the Romanesque dome (1180-1200) which covers the transept crossing of the Strasbourg Cathedral. This dome has suffered from damage due to its exposure to the elements since the construction of the lantern tower of the Klotz tower, in the 1870s.

An unusual scaffolding, suspended

The work, commissioned by the DRAC Grand Est under the mastery of the chief architect of historic monuments Pierre-Yves Caillault, began with the installation of a scaffolding suspended above the choir from the eight windows of the frame. The company Europe scaffolding completed this extraordinary structure in September 2022.

La voromanesque

The large dome (made between 1180-1200) covers the choir of the Strasbourg Cathedral.
Of Romanesque design, it is thus the crypt and apse, dated from the first phase of the reconstruction of the church, which lasted nearly 300 years until its completion in XVe century.
Its restoration, implemented by the DRAC Grand Est, under the mastery of the chief architect of historical monuments (ACMH) Pierre-Yves Caillault, meets both a sanitary necessity and a desire to valorize.
