Label "Maisons des Illustres"
The label «Maisons des Illustres» makes it possible to indicate to the public the places whose vocation is to preserve and transmit the memory of the women and men who lived in them and distinguished themselves in the political, social and cultural history of France. 22 places are labeled in the Great East.
Places of memory
The Ministry of Culture launched the label "Maisons des Illustres" in 2011.
The "Houses of the Illustrious" gather places of memory to better connect local history and national history, the intimate and the collective. They reveal the role played by political, religious, scientific and artistic actors whose cultural dimension the Ministry of Culture intends to have recognized.
The label guarantees visitors a high-quality cultural programme and means of accompanying the visit adapted to everyone, especially the school public and people with disabilities.

What is the label, the benefits...
The procedures for awarding and applying
Every year the DRAC Grand Est launches a labeling campaign among owners.
Applications shall be submitted, after consideration of their admissibility, to the Regional Commission on Heritage and Architecture (CRPA). CRPA’s proposals are then validated by the Prefect of the Region and the label is awarded for 5 years.
