Documentary heritage and archaeology collections on the Lyon and Clermont-Ferrand sites
The Documentation Centre in Lyon gathers a collection of documents specialized in the field of heritage: The domains covered concern the history of art (architecture, sculpture, painting, objects of art), industrial heritage, gardens, architecture and urban planning, the history, the national heritage, the regional heritage protected by the Historical Monuments, the measures of protection and preservation and an ethnological sector.
Open to professionals and students as well as to a curious public of history and regional archaeology, the documentation centre offers a varied set of documents covering all areas of heritage.
Heritage library
It has a library of 9000 books, specialized in Art History, Architecture and Archaeology, with more marked backgrounds for prehistoric and ancient periods.
150 titles of periodicals are available including the main national archaeological journals, but also some foreign titles (Germania, Zephyrus...) as well as several magazines of art history and architecture (Monumental Bulletin, VMF, AMC, etc...)
More than 500 academic works carried out on regional topics and a regional library collection of numerous publications on the 8 departments of the former Rhône-Alpes are also available.
Regional fund archeological
Archaeological excavation reports concerning the departments: Ain, Ardèche, Drôme, Isère, Loire, Lyon metropolis, Rhône, Savoie, Haute-Savoie
8900 archaeological excavation reports are available on site.
Two-thirds are digitized and searchable via the DRAC Document Portal.
Histor monuments fondsiques
The documentation centre also provides access to protection files, work files of buildings protected as historic monuments, files of remarkable heritage sites, buildings labeled remarkable architecture of the departments: Ain, Ardèche, Drôme, Isère, Loire, Lyon metropolis, Rhône, Savoie, Haute-Savoie.
The public also has access to the photographic databases specific to the DRAC Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes (historical monuments, ethnology...).

Regional Archaeological Fund
Open to professionals and students as well as to a curious public, the library of the Regional Service of Archaeology (SRA) in Clermont-Ferrand gathers a collection of documents specialized in the archaeological field.
Located at the Hotel de Chazerat, it occupies an area of 45 m².
The general archaeological fund as well as the fund specialized in the four departments of ancient Auvergne (Allier, Cantal, Haute-Loire, Puy-de-Dôme) consist of just under 7,000 works. Books and magazines from other regions and foreign publications are also available to readers.
302 academic papers, including some in digital format, are available. They are also available on DRAC servers. These are part of a collection of numerous publications on the four departments of the former Auvergne.
The library is the only one in the department to have such a wealth of documentation on archaeology.

Conditions for access and consultation
Reception is by appointment and consultation is only done on site.
The consultation takes place during the opening hours of the DRAC, from Monday to Friday, from 9 am to 12 pm and from 2 pm to 4.30 pm.
In the case of an upstream search on the online catalogue, for the documents you would like to consult, please remember to note the titles and references of the documents, mentioned at the bottom of the complete record. The reception area does not have a computer station.
Archaeological Map
The national archaeological map “gathers and orders for the whole of the national territory the available archaeological data”.art.L522-5 of the Heritage Code) in the form of a computerized inventory.
It is a tool for research and management of archaeological heritage that is enriched by the results of studies, prospections, diagnostics and excavations carried out at each new operation.
It also includes the Presumptive Archaeological Prescription Zones (ZPPA), which are the zones within which planning requests must be forwarded to the DRAC Regional Archaeological Service.
The Regional Archaeology Service maintains a copy of all archaeological operation reports for the region, currently just over 4,810 reports. They are available on request and on site.
