Culture and Health in Mayotte
Access to culture for hospitalized people, their families, caregivers and people supported by medical and social structures is a right in the same way as education or health. As such, the Mayotte Cultural Affairs Directorate (DAC Mayotte) and the Indian Ocean Regional Health Agency (ARS OI) have signed a partnership agreement to encourage the development of cultural and artistic projects in hospitals and medicalsocial. This partnership DAC Mayotte/ ARS OI aims to improve the daily life of each user by giving him access to cultural actions to promote creativity and meetings of people in difficulty. It also offers the possibility to artists and cultural actors to integrate into their practices an approach and conditions of creation and unprecedented experimentation.

2 - The intervention framework
Projects related to «La Nurserie» that take into account, if possible, the circulation of patients and their families between the islands of Mayotte and Reunion Island will be considered. Projects presented within the framework of arts and cultural education (in school time) will be taught in association with the Vice-rector of Mayotte. Projects may also be investigated in connection with the scheme; “Culture and Justice” :
- writing workshops that contribute to documenting plants through the contribution of scientific, traditional knowledge, stories and tales that evoke them, by the languages in which they are already described
- tales, oral literature
- collections of intangible heritage around the know-how of traditional medicine transmitted between generations on the two islands, its place in the daily life of the inhabitants
- visual and audiovisual representations of plants and the imagination they convey
- actions that are part of local and national cultural events in particular in connection with the development of the Mayotte Museum (MuMA)
- any action implemented in partnership with a cultural institution, relating to the eligible area;
- organization of public events
3 - The specificities of cultural actions in health
As an actor commissioned by the State within a medical or medico-social institution, the artist must have a morality and a discourse in line with this environment: behavior and respectful behavior of people, taking into account their pathologies during activities that will be adapted to the public met. Confidentiality and discretion are required inside and outside the institutions.
