Plastic arts
The Visual Arts Department of DAC Martinique contributes to the definition, application and adaptation of the policy of the Ministry of Culture and Communication in the development and dissemination of contemporary creation.
The missions of the service
It provides technical advice or financial support to regional projects and appraises grant applications. It provides expertise, information and advice to creators in order to facilitate their professional, artistic and economic integration.
Training
In consultation with the General Directorate of Artistic Creation, the visual arts services of the DRAC accompany the operation of art colleges under the supervision of the Ministry of Culture and Communication and, in Martinique, the Regional Institute of Visual Arts created in 1984 , became in 2011 Department of Visual Arts at the Caribbean Arts Campus.
In addition, DAC Martinique offers in partnership with Agecif, CIPAC, CNFPT modules of continuing education in the field of visual arts.
Creation
DAC Martinique supports the development of the contemporary creation in all its forms.
Individual support for the creation aims to facilitate the realization of an artistic project or approach. It allows artists to conduct artistic research for the realization of a major project. This is not an aid to dissemination (exhibition, edition).
Allocation to the facility workshop and equipment purchase meets the material needs of artists in terms of equipment. It improves working conditions in the workshop.
This aid is awarded once a year by a commission designated by prefectural decree.
The committee meets once a year.
The deadline for submitting applications is 31 March each year.
In 2016, the Commission for the Allocation of Deconcentrated Aid to the Visual Arts, meeting at the DAC on April 14, awarded a workshop installation and equipment purchase allowance to Hélène Raffestin, as well as individual creative assistance to Robert Charlotte, David Gumbs and Ricardo Ozier-Lafontaine.
In 2017, the Commission for the Award of Decentralized Aid to the Visual Arts, meeting at the DAC on 11 May, allocated a workshop installation and equipment purchase allowance to Mathieu Guérard and Jean-Luc Toussaint, as well as individual creation assistance to Jean-Marc Bullet, Mario Gilbert, Sarah Agathe Salomon and Cédric Petitjean Roget.
Meeting held on 29 May 2018 DAC, the Commission for the Allocation of Decentralised Aid to the Visual Arts, has awarded individual creative aid to Agnès Brézéphin-Coulmin, Nicolas Derné, Jean-Louis Saïz, Henri Tauliaut and a workshop installation and equipment purchase allowance for Julie Bessard, David Gumbs, Raphaëlle Jacquemin and Pierrette Varsier.
Diffusion
The Visual Arts Department also supports the distribution structures that pay particular attention to artists engaged in contemporary approaches. In the absence of specialized structures such as FRAC and Art Centres, it supports the labeled structures with a mission to disseminate the visual arts.
It also pays particular attention to associations and to artist collectives that develop a unifying and structuring project.
Given its geographical context, the influence of Martinique artists in the Caribbean is a priority.
Public procurement
The Visual Arts Department defines and coordinates the procedures related to public procurement.
Result of collaboration between State and local authorities, public institutions or private partners, this scheme aims to contribute to the visibility of creation on the territory and the requalification of urban and rural areas while contributing to the enrichment of the national heritage and living environment by the presence of works of art outside the sole institutions specializing in contemporary art.
The 1% artistic
The plastic arts department monitors procedures related to the 1% artistic . It is a device that consists in devoting a financing of 1% of the cost of construction to the order or acquisition of one or more works of art specifically designed for public buildings to the commission or acquisition of one or more works of art specifically designed for them.
