On December 18, 2017, the jury of the architecture competition was held in Marseille for the selection of the prime contractor team for the construction project of the future «Mediterranean Institute of the city and territories».

The new building, located in the heart of the Porte d'Aix district, will host alongside the École Nationale Supérieure d'Architecture de Marseille, the branch office of the École Nationale Supérieure de Paysage Versailles-Marseille and the Institut d'Urbanisme et d'Aménagement Régional d'Aix-Marseille University.

L'État, maître d'ouvrage, et les collectivités territoriales – Métropole Aix-Marseille-Provence, Ville de Marseille, Département des Bouches-du-Rhône, Région Sud-Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur – have come together to enable the completion of this teaching and research equipment, promoting sharing and bringing together the training of architects, landscapers and urban planners, and in line with the revitalization of the urban centre of Marseille carried by Euroméditerranée, near the Saint-Charles train station and a revitalized university campus.

Among the 4 teams of architects invited to compete: Atelier Barani, Aires Mateus E Associados, W-Architectures and NP2F, the jury proposed to rank in 1era position the project of the NP2F team, widely open on the square and offering spaces for teaching and light exchanges and adaptable to pedagogical evolutions.

With this choice, Françoise Nyssen, Minister of Culture, sends a signal of confidence towards the young generation of architects to design the new poles of higher education.
