Franck Riester welcomes the success of #Archeorama and the 2020 European Archaeology Days.
Given the health context, the 11e edition of the European Archaeology Days (JEA) took place in an unprecedented form. From 19 to 21 June, archaeology was highlighted through the organisation of the digital event #Archeorama, coordinated by the National Institute for Preventive Archaeological Research (INRAP), under the aegis of the Ministry of Culture.
This 2020 edition was also marked by openness to Europe. Twenty-eight countries took action, in person or digitally, 10 more than in 2019, including Greece, Turkey, Russia and Denmark, offering nearly 400 activities.
During these three days, the public was able to benefit from a rich program offered by the regional directorates of cultural affairs, associations, local authorities, the cnrs, the university and Inrap. On the platform dedicated to the European Archaeology Days, he was able to discover archaeological sites via virtual visits or 3D reconstructions, participate in workshops live on Facebook, follow the daily life of researchers on Twitter, listening to podcasts and lectures, watching documentaries and exploring virtual exhibits. In the territories where the health context allowed, sites, archaeological monuments or museums offered visits.
More than 1,000 activities have been listed on the European Archaeology Days platform. With 150,000 visitors, the 2020 edition is a success! 1.2 million viewers watched the documentary "Mont Saint-Michel, le labyrinthe de l'archange" broadcast as part of the special Arte day dedicated to archaeology, whose audience success was confirmed again this year. 120,000 Internet users also saw the episode «We would never have discovered this without the technology» made in partnership with Inrap by the YouTube channel «C'est une autre Histoire».
The European Archaeology Days are supported by Bouygues Travaux Publics and the Promogim, Capelli and Demathieu Bard groups.
The next European Archaeology Days will be held on 18, 19 and 20 June 2021.
