On the proposal of Roselyne Bachelot-Narquin, Minister of Culture, the President of the Republic decided to appoint Rachid Ouramdane to the leadership of Chaillot – National Dance Theatre. He will take office on April 5, 2021 for a 5-year term.

Trained at the National Centre for Contemporary Dance in Angers, Rachid Ouramdane has been a choreographer and performer since 1992.  He cultivates an art of encounter, whose sensitive experience requires the questioning of all prejudices, and develops a unique dance in the French choreographic landscape, which questions hospitality, inclusion but also major environmental issues. He was co-director since 1er January 2016, with circassian Yoann Bourgeois, CCN2 – Centre chorégraphique national de Grenoble.

Ouramdane’s project demonstrates a renewed and open vision of dance, which he wants to consider in its links with all the arts, but also in its direct connection with society. Rachid Ouramdane wishes to Chaillot – National Dance Theatre the ' Theatre of diversity A place of social innovation through art and culture. Thus, he proposes to build an artistic line from the history of Chaillot, relying notably on the symbol and the base of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights that was signed in these places.

Rachid Ouramdane will succeed Didier Deschamps, Director of Chaillot – National Dance Theatre since July 7, 2011. The Minister of Culture would like to commend the remarkable work of Didier Deschamps and his entire team, who have made Chaillot one of the major venues for dance in Europe and look forward to the upcoming arrival of Rachid Ouramdane.
